I was born on the sixteenth of the tenth month, a thousand nine hundred and seventy-nine years after Christ. Yes, I am old. I can be a 14 year old kid’s mother had I been promiscuous and sexually active when I was 15. Fortunately for me (and for my parents’ sanity), at the young age of fifteen, I had no interest in boys. Sure I knew about sex but it just wasn’t on my mind.
I was born in Manila, Philippines. To my mother who was married to my father. Before me, there were three, the second one (his name was Conrad) passed away before I even got to know him. After me, two. The youngest is actually my (first) cousin who we treat as though he’s our brother. When I was 12, my sister and I flew to Hawaii and had a taste of aparment living – Waikiki-style. We walked to the beach almost every night with daddy dearest. We learned how to cook rice, do our own laundry, and had seen our first hooker (in person). No my dad didn’t take a hooker home, there were just a lot of them walking the streets at night in Waikiki. Before summer was over (1992), my mom and my younger brother had joined us in Hawaii. Apartment living was not as fun because we were cramped in a small apartment so off to the ghetto we moved. Three years of living in the US and it was not what I had pictured (Hollywood lied, America had an ugly side.). I got my first taste of public school education and well, the snob in me was not all that happy. At least, I was smarter than the average student/classmate. And, for the first time in the history of mankind, I became an Honor Student! ME – an honor student!! Who would’ve thunk it?
So blah blah blah, moved to California in 1996. Island living became a tad too depressing. You can only do so much in a place that small (it’s only about 5 hours to drive around the island – if you’re not stopping to picnic or whatever). Graduated High School and still trying to finish up college.
I am married (yes, the transition is weak) and he’s the best person for the ‘job’. He makes me happy, he makes me mad, but he’s never made me cry. I love him. He loves to talk and I listen except when he starts talking about Star Wars and videogames. I get bored and I just look at him and pretend I’m listening.
I hope he doesn’t google me.
